Jagdishpur is one of the very few assembly seats where Congress enjoys a considerable clout. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had secured a lead of 14241 votes over his nearest BJP rival and currently Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani in the Jagdishpur assembly segment which forms part of the Amethi parliamentary seat.
